MacLellan Bookkeeping News

There’s been a lot happening at MacLellan Bookkeeping the past few months. Here’s a quick summary of what’s been going on:

We’ve decided to switch from Sole Trader to Limited Company. We feel it’s the best way for us to grow and serve our clients better. There’s a lot to do when making the switch but we can help guide you through it if it’s something you’re considering.

We have a ‘beanie’ from Bots for That, which we use to reconcile most of our transactions and we named it after our Golden Retriever, Scout. It’s very efficient and reconciles a lot of transactions in super quick time.

We now have a quick Monday morning ‘scrum’ to help us organise the start of the week. We quickly cycle through tasks and clients and prioritise things for the week. Neither of us are fans of long meetings so we keep it brief. It’s a good way to start the week.

We are huge fans of Apron, which we use for data extraction, supplier payments and uploading invoices into Xero. It’s so efficient and one of our favourite pieces of software.

With so many great software businesses out there we’re starting to use spreadsheets less and less, which we really see as a good thing. We’re also writing some code and plugins for some sites that allow us so that we can automate things even more and cut out time-consuming and frankly quite boring spreadsheet manipulation.

We’re also aiming for a good work-life balance in 2026. It’s important. This means that we’ve come up with resolutions on how our business will work that we’ll be implementing in 2026. Think Carmy’s “non-negotiables” from The Bear.

Every payment system or till software should have the ability to automatically import transactions into Xero if needed. It could save EVERYONE so much time.
